PRESS RELEASE — For immediate release
SCALE.AI, the supply chain supercluster powered by artificial intelligence, will receive funding from
the Innovation Superclusters Initiative.
OTTAWA, February 15, 2018 — The SCALE.AI consortium is proud to have been selected by the Government of Canada among the five candidates called to receive a share of the funding awarded under the Innovation Superclusters Initiative. The announcement was made today by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, the Honourable Navdeep Bains.
Such a result would not have been possible without the generous contribution of academic research institutes IVADO and the University of Waterloo, with the support of a volunteer project team made up of independent professionals and experts representing organizations such as BCG, CGI, Norton Rose Fulbright, OPTEL, PwC Canada and SCMA.
Nearly 120 industrial partners, facilitation organizations and world-class research institutions joined forces to create this Canadian industry-led innovation consortium. Together, these partners have already committed $700 million to support this unprecedented initiative.
The funding agreement to be concluded shortly with the Government of Canada will enable SCALE.AI to launch its operations and begin transformative collaborative projects that will accelerate the development and rapid integration into our economy of the supply chains of the future, powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
The Canadian supply chain provides about one million jobs and represents more than 10% of our GDP. Digital technologies and AI are driving increasing disruption in supply chains. SCALE.AI intends to seize this opportunity to promote Canada as a hub for applied AI and as a crossroads of global trade.
