How to partner with schools to train the 4.0 workforce

Investissement Quebec recently published an article by Nathalie Vallee, Director General of College Ahuntsic on the 4.0 talent pipeline. Partnerships between manufacturers and educational institutions are a great solution to adopt to meet manufacturing workforce needs.

The article describes the recent partnership between College Ahuntsic and Siemens. They have rolled out what is known as dual training, which "refers to a curriculum delivered across two environments: industry and school." Very specific technical skills are then learned by students who become certified for the company in question, without necessarily having to work there. The core objective is to leverage collaboration between schools and companies through non-exclusive partnerships. These partnerships help meet companies' new workforce needs while also better preparing the 4.0 talent pipeline.

A lot to gain

Given the workforce challenges manufacturers currently face, they have every reason to invest in partnerships with educational institutions. There are several possible forms of collaboration: custom training for employees, adding technical training to school curricula, work-study programs, recruitment events, and more. Whatever the form of partnership, working with schools allows innovative manufacturers to get closer to the 4.0 talent pipeline, train current employees, anticipate workforce needs, and better meet them.
