In this video is from the spring, Chris Herbert from Silicon Halton and Mi6 Agency talks with Scott MacDonald of McRock Capital in the lead up to the 2018 IIoT Symposium that took place in Montreal in June. It's a primer for what happened this year and also for how the symposium contributes to IIoT industry conversations each year.
While IIoT industry leaders might not envision Canada as a "hotbed of IIoT innovation compared to Silicon Valley," Herbert says, "the best-kept secret, is due in part to McRock Capital... and the hub is in Canada."
MacDonald discusses the history of the symposium over the past seven years, collaborative learning at the symposium, evolution of the industry, financial advancement of IIoT and the McRock IIoT Awards.
Noting that an arms-length selection committee of volunteers determines award winners, MacDonald talks about the IIoT Entrepreneur of the Year Award, which is given to an individual, typically founders or early leaders "within a high growth or startup company. The background story sometimes goes into a personal narrative. It's really exciting to award individuals that are doing incredible things."
