How Viau Cut Its Labor Costs

Since adopting Worximity's technologies, Viau has also seen higher material yield and reduced overproduction.

Founded in 1977, Viau operates two 400,000 sq ft plants in Montreal and Laval with roughly 450 employees. The company specializes in a wide range of deli meats and pizza toppings. It is the largest pepperoni producer in Canada and has built a strong reputation for innovation.

The client needed to determine the full cost of its production processes to get an accurate picture and pinpoint direct labor costs for specific units, which were reduced by more than $2,400 per month. They wanted a real-time view of what was happening on the floor to optimize material yield, which actually increased by 1.5%, and to be able to identify the root causes of daily variations so they could be corrected quickly.

"Before, it took us weeks to assemble a material yield report. Now, real-time data availability lets us engage our teams immediately to address key issues. People are more aware of what is happening, so material yield is optimized and more consistent." - Didier Leroux, Viau Food Products, Director of Operations

Active engagement from around forty users, the consolidation of data from each site onto a single platform, and the use of the summary line that provides visualization of every line are key success factors at Viau.

"Now that we have all the relevant data and the analytics needed to extract manufacturing intelligence, we can identify business opportunities and the projects worth investing time and money into." - Pat de Marco, Viau Food Products, President and COO
